BAC Final Update for 2020

Dear Bellville Athletic Club member,

What a year we have all been through! When 2020 started, I
do not think that any of us expected it to turn out the way it has! The club
had to close for 7 months, we had no races since March, and it seems this may
continue for some time.

Our Dan Luyt 15km race is scheduled for Valentine’s Day 14
February 2021
but at this time we do not think the race will happen. We may be
allowed to host the race but with the current restriction on the number of
runners allowed, it will not be financially viable for us to host the race. Of
course, there is still the general high risk of having so many people together,
so we are rather looking at going Virtual in 2021. This also means that
all BAC members are encouraged to enter, more information will be communicated early
in 2021.

We also realize that our members did not get much value for
their membership fee in 2020. The committee discussed this issue and decided
that all 2020 BAK members that rejoin the club before the end of
March 2021
will get discounted rates, i.e. the first member will only pay R199,
the second member of the family will pay R120 and juniors fee will
remain R60. After March however, the fees will be the same as in 2020,
which is R280 for the first family member and R160 for the second
family member. People that were not members in 2020 will pay the full
fees as per 2020. We encourage all current members to renew your membership
early in 2021 (before end March) and just for info, the 2021 ASA License cost
will be R100 for seniors and R30 for juniors. At this time, we do not know when the new numbers will be available, or what the license renewal process will be, but we will update our website and email the information as soon as it becomes available

The club virtual challenges during the last few months have
been a huge success, well done to everyone that took part!  The challenges were dominated by our
MASTER runners Theo Steenkamp and Gerhard Snyman. It has been a battle for the top
spot between these two for a while now, it just shows the older you get the
better you run!!

Because we could not hold our annual prize giving this year,
we want to have a big function in the first few months of 2021, to coincide
with our AGM. To this end we may look at doing something different with our
AGM, like moving the AGM to a Saturday and then have a function with dancing
afterwards. This of course will be dependent on the current COVID-19 Regulations
at that time but again we will communicate details in due course.

The club will close for the year on Thursday 10 December
2020
and reopen on Thursday 14 January 2021.

To end off I would like thank our committee for
the work and support during a tough year and thank you to all our members for
your loyalty. From myself I would like to wish everyone a wonderful festive season
and a fantastic 2021.

Stay safe,

Andre
